Listed below are use instructions for all sensors included in the MedWand device.
The method for activating and manipulating the sensor within the MedWand VirtualCare software will vary depending on the exam type being used. See in-app instructions or
CLICK HERE for tutorials by exam type.
Thermometer
1. Point the thermometer directly at the center of your
forehead, 1 to 2 inches away from the surface of your skin. Move hair off your
forehead as needed (See Figure 1).
2. Keep the Green line above your eyebrows to ensure the
thermometer is pointed at your forehead NOT your eyes or nose.
4. Move the
MedWand™ slowly back and forth across your entire forehead (See Figure 2).
5. The sensor will stop after 10 seconds, and the display
will show your temperature reading.
Note: for an accurate reading, ensure the MedWand™
Device does not touch your skin.

Pulse Oximeter (SpO2 and Heart Rate)
1. Place the index finger of either hand on the Oximeter
sensor (See Figure 3).
2. Cover the entire sensor with your fingertip and keep it
as still as possible.
3. Keep your finger on the sensor with light pressure until the countdown ends (See Figure 3). If your fingertip
is not properly aligned, the MedWand™ application reports: ‘Finger Not
Detected’.
Figure 3 - Finger Placement on Device
Note: If the countdown ends and a reading is not displayed, the patient may be experiencing poor perfusion. Try one or more of the suggestions below and attempt the reading again.
-
Stethoscope
Note: when a
stethoscope filter is engaged in a remote exam, the patient's microphone will be muted so as not
to conflict with the stethoscope.
- Place the round stethoscope drum on the specified area of your body. Your physician may request that you place the device directly on your skin if they’re having difficulty hearing through your clothing.
- Below are some common placement areas for the MedWand; however, your physician may request you to move the device to other locations as needed.
