Recommended Android Tablet Setup

Clean Up the Home Screen

  1.          We recommend clearing the home screen of unnecessary apps and adding the MedWand application for easy access. To do so, try following the steps below (Instructions may vary from one model tablet to another. For further assistance, reference the operator's manual for your tablet).

    1. Press and hold an unwanted app icon on your home screen until the sub-menu appears.
    2. Select "Remove" (The app should still be listed within your app list if you need to access it later).

                  3. Once unnecessary apps are removed, swipe up on your home screen to access the apps list.

                  4. Locate the MedWand VirtualCare App. Press and hold the icon until the Sub-Menu appears and select "Add to Home". This will add an app shortcut icon to your tablet's home screen. You may need to swipe left or right on your home screen to find the page it's been placed on. The icon can be moved to the positioning and page of your choice by pressing and holding the icon until the Sub-Menu appears; you may then drag the icon to your desired location.

Add a Shortcut for the Kiosk Exam Code Entry Page

If you're utilizing the MedWand Kiosk software for facilitating exams, we recommend creating a browser shortcut on your tablet's home screen. This will save you time and clicks when navigating to the exam code entry page for joining appointments created through the MedWand Kiosk. Below are instructions for creating a browser shortcut on your tablet's home screen (Instructions may vary from one model tablet to another. For further assistance, reference the operator's manual for your tablet).
  1. Open the Chrome browser on your tablet and navigate to mwkiosk.medwand.com
  2. Once on the exam code entry page, select the Chrome settings menu icon (Usually displayed as 3 vertical dots in the top right corner).
    1. Note: If you're running an outdated version of Chrome, you may see an arrow icon instead of dots.

       3. From the menu, select “Add to Home Screen.”

       4. Name the shortcut (Example: Exam Access or Join Exam).
       5. You should now be able to access the VirtualCare app and Join pages from your tablet's home screen.

Adjust Screen Timeout

By default, most Android tablets are set to lock the screen after 30 seconds of inactivity. This setting can be adjusted on most tablets by following the steps below.
  1. Open your tablet settings menu.
  2. Navigate to and select "Display".
  3. Locate and select "Screen Timeout" to adjust the interval.

Review Your Audio Settings

The MedWand is engineered to capture and deliver accurate stethoscope sounds. To make the most of it:

  • Use high‑quality headphones (over‑ear or low‑frequency‑response earbuds) for clearer playback.

  • Ensure a snug fit so external noise is minimized.

  • Recordings themselves are always unaltered, but some device “enhancements” may change how you hear them.

Audio Enhancements: What You Need to Know

Many operating systems include features—Dolby Atmos, sound enhancers, equalizers, UHQ upscalers—that boost volume or tweak frequency response. These do not change the underlying MedWand recording, but they can introduce distortion, mask subtle murmurs, or alter timbre in ways that make clinical interpretation harder. If you notice unexpected artifacts or muffled tones, disabling or adjusting these settings is recommended.

How to Disable or Adjust Enhancements

Below are links to official help articles for the most common platforms. You can simply link your users to these pages rather than embedding full menu instructions in your article.

For other Android models, look under Settings > Sound or Accessibility > Sound enhancements, or search your OEM’s support site for “audio enhancements.”

Testing Audio Quality

To ensure you’re hearing MedWand recordings exactly as intended, this quick check will help you decide whether to leave your system’s audio enhancements on or off.

Quick Test Steps

  1. Play the Heart recording with enhancements ON. Note clarity and any distortion.

  2. Play the Heart recording with enhancements OFF. Note clarity and any distortion.

  3. Repeat steps 1–2 using the Lung recording.

Select the enhancement state (ON or OFF) that gives you the clearest sound with the fewest artifacts.
