Performing an onsite exam begins by using a browser
to navigate to the exam code entry page,
typically located at mwkiosk.medwand.com
wand.com unless instructed otherwise.
Here you will enter your six digit exam access code
that should be provided to you
by your clinical care team and confirm
The information on Screen is correct.
To begin.
This demonstrates one common method to start an exam.
Your clinical care team may use an alternative method,
which they will inform you of directly.
Once in the exam room,
the caregiver will use the onscreen buttons
to operate each medwand sensor.
You can select a sensor using the shortcuts up top
or by selecting the sensors button.
Here we see a list of all sensors contained in the medwand,
as well as other sensors you may need
to use as part of the exam.
The medwand thermometer is a small hole
Located on The bottom of the medwand.
The green line will help you get the med
wand in the right position.
Hold the medwand up pointing the thermometer directly at
the center of the patient's forehead, one
to two inches from the surface of the skin.
It is very important to ensure the green line is
above the patient's eyebrows.
If the medwand is held correctly,
You should not be able to see the green line.
Ensure that the thermometer is pointed at the forehead,
not the eyes or nose.
When you're ready, select start,
which will begin a ten second countdown while you take the
patient's temperature while taking the patient's
temperature, wave the medwand across from temple
to temple across the entire forehead twice.
Once finished, you should see the patient's temperature
displayed on screen indicating that it has been captured.
If you don't try again,
the medwand pulse oximeter sensor is located on the
top of the medwand.
Using the pulse oximeter,
you can record the patient's blood oxygen saturation,
also known as SP O2 value and their pulse rate.
Instruct the patient to place the index finger over the
pulse oximeter sensor.
Cover the entire sensor with the patient's fingertip
and ensure they keep their finger as still as possible.
Select start pulse oximeter
to begin recording their SP O2 and pulse rate.
Ensure the patient keeps their finger on the sensor
until the timer at the bottom of the screen reaches zero.
If their fingertip is not properly aligned,
the medwand application will report finger not detected.
The recording will automatically stop after 60 seconds
and the display will show their readings.
If you fail to get a reading, ask the patient
to warm their finger and try again
as cold hands can make it difficult to get a reading.
The medwand stethoscope is a gray disc located at the
bottom of the medwand between the ECG pads.
Using the stethoscope, you can record sounds
of the patient's heart, lungs, and abdomen.
Wearing headphones is required
to properly hear these sounds.
During auscultation.
Onscreen diagrams will show you the proper locations
to place the stethoscope place on bare skin if possible.
At each location, place the stethoscope against the
patient's body and hold still.
Once in position, press record
and remain in this position
until the countdown at the bottom of the screen reaches zero
indicating that the recording has finished.
You will need to turn the stethoscope off
before moving to the next sensor.
The medwand camera is located at the front of the device.
If taking images
of the skin select dermatoscope on the right
to turn the camera on,
insert the supplied clear ruler into the front
slot of the medwand.
Point the medwand camera at the location
on the patient's skin.
You want to photograph
And lightly Rest the ruler against their skin.
Use the medwand application controls
to adjust image brightness as needed.
Select take photo to record a high definition photograph,
Which will occur after a five second countdown.
To take images of the ear, select auto scope on the right
to turn the camera on, press a speculum into the ring
around the medwand camera
and use onscreen arrows to center the end of the tip
to the center of the image.
You may now inspect and take images of the patient's ear,
Adjusting LED brightness and focus as needed.
Once finished, you will need to turn the camera off
Before moving to the next sensor.
The medwand electrocardiogram sensor can be found
as two triangular pads located on
the bottom of the medwand.
Using the electrocardiogram, you can obtain a waveform
of the patient's heart activity.
Ask the patient to place their thumbs on the sensor pads on
the bottom of the med one device.
The left thumb should be on the pad labeled L.
The right thumb should be on the pad labeled R.
Ensure the patient's hands do not touch
and that they sit still
with their feet apart and flat on the floor.
Select start ECG to begin a recording
and view the onscreen display of the ECG strip.
Ensure the patient keeps their thumbs on the sensor pads
and maintains even pressure.
Recording will stop after 60 seconds.
At any point during an onsite exam,
the invite button can be used to invite a remote clinician
to join, review and control the exam.
This feature is explained in depth in another video.
Finally, you can review all captured data from the summary
page To finish the exam, go to summary
and select Save data
and Exit to save the exam data
to your clinical care team's records.
